The Centre for the Deafblind supports those with an auditory or visual impairment in having a safe, comfortable and secure haven. This is true for both clients in residential care at Kalorama, as well as for those living at home.
The Centre for the Deafblind provides care for adults with auditory and visual impairments from all over the Netherlands.
We provide clients with an extensive range of services including supervision in their home surroundings, support in daily activities, communication training aimed at improving independency, contact with fellow clients, and psychological support. We cooperate closely with local and regional health-care organisations.
When we start up a care program for a new client, we work together to map the specific care requirements for each individual client. Every client receives a personal and specific indication which is issued by an independent organisation (the Centrum Indicatiestelling Zorg) responsible for determining the level of care required. We provide an extensive range of services which also cover the needs of those who require multiple, intensive and complex care and /or coaching.
What do we provide?
- Residential care is provided 24 hours a day for those being cared for in and in the surroundings of our facility in Beek-Ubbergen. Care can include support, coaching, medical care, treatment and rehabilitation. Every client in a residential group is provided with tailor-made care services. In addition, clients can temporarily stay at the Centre, for example in case of convalescence or an acute problem at home, or if the required home care services are temporarily unavailable.
- Ambulatory care occurs at the client's home. Our ambulatory care staff help clients to manage and maintain their independency in their own homes. They provide support in the clients' own surroundings and help them manage their day to day activities. They also provide coaching in additional skills; in these cases they work together with other specialized organizations and with those in their immediate surroundings.
- Part-time care includes a comprehensive range of services: medical care, coaching, daily activity supervision and contact with fellow clients. In addition to our own centre in Beek-Ubbergen, we provide part-time care services at centres in Deventer and in Utrecht together with our sister organizations, Viataal and Bartimeus.
- Activities - guidance is part of the Centre for Deafblind and offers opportunities for specialized Daycare. The activities for clients from the residential facility but also for clients that use our rehabilitation facility or part time -care. Activities- guidance goes along with the deafblind client looking for an answer to his / her questions in the daytime activities.
